Nicolas Cage Says He Has Had Discussions About Playing Spider-Man Noir in Live-Action
While Nicolas Cage has been fairly adamant that he will not be reprising his role as Benjamin Franklin Gates in a new National Treasure movie anytime soon, the actor could be returning to one of his more recent iconic roles in the future.
In an interview with Collider, Cage revealed that he has “been talking” to Marvel and Sony about bringing his Spirder-Man Noir character into live-action.

“Well, I can say that we have been talking. It’s no secret that I love the character. I think the character provides another mash up of sorts,” Cage explained.

The character was instantly memorable for his black-and-white aesthetic, hard-boiled attitude, and moral ambiguity. Clearly inspired by the film noir of the 1930s, Spider-Man Noir, was an instant hit with fans.
Leaning Into Legendary Performances
Following the character’s success, Sony announced that a Spider-Man Noir live-action series was in development. So, how would Cage play the role?

“I can combine my favorite golden age performances, i.e. Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that is, I guess, widely considered [to be] Stan Lee’s masterpiece. I see it as a kind of foray into a pop art mash up of, sort of, a [Jungian] Lichtenstein, mash up by way of Bogart and Cagney, but nothing’s definitive yet. It’s just conversation,” he says.
While Cage portraying a live-action Spider-Man Noir may be far from a done deal, the thought of the actor playing a Spider-Man version of Phillip Marlowe or Sam Spade seems like it would be a lot of fun.

If nothing else, we know that Cage will return as Spider-Man Noir in animation for the third Spider-Verse film. Still, the actor’s affinity for the character is clear. Hopefully, then, we get to see Cage play Spider-Man Noir in live-action, too.
