Gwyneth Paltrow Celebrates Robert Downey Jr.’s Oscar Win From Home
Over thirty years after he was first nominated, Robert Downey Jr. has finally won his first Academy Award.
The Oppenheimer actor took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor last night, beating out the likes of Robert De Niro, Ryan Gosling, and his Avengers co-star Mark Ruffalo.

“I’d like to thank my terrible childhood, and the Academy, in that order,” Downey Jr. joked in his acceptance speech. “Here’s my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me.”
Downey Jr. Reflects on His MCU Run
Downey Jr. has been open about the fact that following his eleven-year run as Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), he longed to tackle more artistic roles. Still, Downey’s run as Iron Man made him one of the biggest movie stars on the planet and revitalized his once-struggling career.

Looking back, however, Downey Jr. has stated that his acting ability went unnoticed in the MCU because the films were superhero movies.

“I felt so exposed after being in the cocoon of Marvel where I think I did some of the best work I will ever do, but it went a little bit unnoticed because of the genre,” Downey Jr. told Rob Lowe in January.
Gweneth Paltrow Celebrates Downey Jr.’s Win
While Downey Jr. was beating out one Avengers co-star for his Academy Award, another was cheering him on at home.
Gweneth Paltrow, who starred as Tony Stark’s assistant-turned-wife, Pepper Potts, in seven MCU films and has been friends with Downey Jr. for decades, posted a video of herself reacting to the actor’s Oscar win.

Paltrow, who was getting her hair and makeup done at home, looked thrilled with Downey’s victory.
While it doesn’t sound like either Downey Jr. or Paltrow will be returning to the MCU, it was fun to see Paltrow cheering her MCU husband on.
