Chris Evans Comments on the Current State of Marvel
Following the struggles of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, and Secret Invasion last year, the once-dominant Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) suddenly looks vulnerable.
After years of dominating both popular culture and the box office, 2023 was a struggle for Marvel both critically and financially. With Disney’s golden goose no longer laying eggs, many have begun to pontificate whether “superhero fatigue” has finally set in.

When the Marvel Cinematic Universe was at its peak, the franchise was being driven by two stars — Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. Both actors opted to leave the MCU following the events of Avengers: Endgame, however, and frankly Marvel has not had the same level of success since.
Chris Evans Talks Marvel
Because Evans has now examined the MCU from within and outside the franchise, he is in a unique position to comment on the current state of superhero films.

When asked about Marvel’s recent output at Emerald City Comic Con, Evans stated that he doesn’t believe that comic book movies get the credit they deserve.

“If it was easy, there’d be a lot more good ones — not trying to throw shade. Some Marvel projects are objectively phenomenal films.”
Will Steve Rogers Return?
As Marvel has struggled in the wake of Evans and Downey Jr.’s MCU exit, fans have speculated that the two actors could be brought back. While it doesn’t sound like Evans has any plans to return now, he is also not closing the door.
“No one’s spoken to me about it. And look, I would never say never, but I really — I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right.”

Maybe then, we haven’t seen the last of Steve Rogers after all.
