Electronic Arts Cancels Respawn’s Mandalorian First-Person Shooter Game
Earlier this month, news broke that Respawn Entertainment was developing a first-person Mandalorian game, and fans were understandably excited.
The first-person shooter was to be set in the age of the Galactic Empire, allowing gamers to play as a Mandalorian bounty hunter.
Equipped with “Mandalorian weapons, including jetpacks, grappling, writ rickets, and blasters,” the new game was said to have linear levels and was described as having a “fast pace.”
Just weeks after the first-person shooter was revealed, however, it has already been canceled.
EA Is Moving Away From Licensed IPs
As part of Electronic Arts’ plans to lay off five percent of their workforce and restructure their company, EA is moving away from developing games based on licensed IP. As part of this move, the Mandalorian game has been canceled.

“We are also sunsetting games and moving away from the development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in the letter.
“This greater focus allows us to drive creativity, accelerate innovation, and double down on our biggest opportunities — including our owned IP, sports, and massive online communities — to deliver the entertainment players want today and tomorrow.”

The news came as a surprise to those working on the game, as they had already completed several levels and a verticle slice.
“It’s Always Hard to Walk Away From a Project”
In a statement to Video Games Chronicle, EA president Laura Miele made it clear that the decision did not reflect the team’s work on the game.

“It’s always hard to walk away from a project, and this decision is not a reflection of the team’s talent, tenacity, or passion they have for the game. Giving fans the next installments of the iconic franchises they want is the definition of blockbuster storytelling and the right place to focus.”

While the Mandalorian first-person game appears to be dead, EA is still set to remain in the Star Wars universe with the upcoming third Star Wars Jedi game.
