5 Reasons to Book a Disney Dream Sailing NOW
Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, Wish, has been the talk of the town for quite some time. And DCL’s upcoming ship, Treasure, should be even more spectacular. (I have no doubt the experts are right.)
But even with the bigger and more advanced DCL vessels, it’s important to remember that all Disney ships are 100% magical. Let’s discuss one I’ve had my eye on for a while – The Disney Dream.
This ship took its maiden voyage in 2010 and has remained a fan-favorite ever since. Featuring barrier-breaking technology and ultra-luxurious amenities, The Dream set standards for many ships to come.
Today, I’m dreaming of a sailing on this vessel. Let’s look at all the reasons why this ship is dream-worthy.
Interactive Portholes
The Disney Dream did what no other ship could do. It made inside staterooms cool.
Formerly, inside staterooms were the least desirable accommodations. These rooms are the smallest onboard and there’s a lack of verandah/windows. (Hello, claustrophobia.)
Disney went above and beyond when they installed magical virtual portholes. Basically, to bring a view to inside rooms, LED monitors (in the shape of portholes) were installed in every room.
These portholes simulate the current view/weather of the sea in real-time. So, the view of sunshine and rocking waves is still accessible.
Best of all, sometimes Disney characters will swim right by your porthole. Now, that is something even the largest verandah room can’t boast!
AquaDuck Coaster
Other ships have upgraded, but The Disney Dream pioneered the roller coaster at sea. At a length of 765 feet, The AquaDuck Coaster is a water slide unlike any other.
On this tube slide, you’ll magically experience the g-forces of a roller coaster. Scream and squeal as you zoom, drop, and even go over the edge of the ship!
Most of the tube is clear, offering stunning views of the ocean, but part of the slide goes throughout the interior of the ship. (Think of this ride as a nautical PeopleMover.)
Also, don’t forget to take a ride at night. The slide lights up in Las Vegas-like flashing colors.
If anyone says Disney Cruises are ride-less, think again.
Broadway Shows
You don’t have to fly to NYC for great theater. In fact, DCL has some of the best shows on the open waters.
If you love musicals and seeing shows within the park, you are in for theatrical treats.
The Disney Dream features not one, but three stage productions. They include:
- Disney’s Believe
- The Golden Mickeys
- Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
To start, Disney’s Believe is an enchanting musical revue-style show centered around a busy dad reconnecting with his daughter.
The Golden Mickeys is for all the fans of La La Land (aka Hollywood). This award-style spectacle features singing, dancing, characters, and all the glitz of tinsel town.
And lastly, the stage production of Beauty and the Beast is simply a classic. Inspired by both the animated film and the 2017 live-action remake, this show brings Belle’s adventure to life through huge musical numbers, gorgeous sets, and glittering costumes.
With every Disney Cruise sailing lasting at least three nights, you’ll be able to catch every show! Grab your seat early and enjoy being whisked away by the magic of live theater.
Exclusive Adult-Only Dining
All Disney Cruise ships have adult-only dining restaurants, but this one is hand crafted for fans of Ratatouille (2007). Dinner at Remy on the Disney Dream is a culinary journey of haute cuisine at its finest. (It also featured an award-winning Chef!)
Step into the lush, red-carpeted dining room. Soak in the elegance as you enjoy spectacular ocean views. But the true star of this place, is the menu.
Chef Remy believes that “anyone can cook”, but he also only wants to eat the good stuff. And this menu is full of great dishes.
The multi-course prix fixe menu is seasonally changes, but rave reviews last all year along. If you are a foodie, an adventurous eater, or are eager to stretch your palate, Remy is a superb choice for dinner.
Please note that this meal comes at an extra upcharge and reservations are strongly recommended. Bon appetit!
A Sugar Rush Worthy Ending
While Disney Cruises are full of complimentary soft serve ice cream, Mickey Bars, and other treats, some dessert upcharges are simply worth it. Case in point, Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats is a can’t-miss ice cream parlor.
Fans of the Wreck-It-Ralph (2012) will find their sweet tooths tingling for this Sugar Rush-style eatery. Step into the colorful world of Vanellope’s go cart racing and order dessert at this candy paradise.
The menu feature sundaes, gelato, baked goods, bulk candy, and your favorite prepacked Disney snacks. (Personally, I’d go for Vanellope’s Race Car Sundae. You get to keep the plastic race car it comes in!)
Additionally, the parlor has lot of fun photo ops with life-sized plastic characters and Vanellope’s famous go-cart. Even if you just stop by to inhale the sweetness, a visit to Vanellope’s is a sweet finish to the day.
With so many reasons to sail on the Dream, you’re probably looking at dates already. Don’t wait. Cruises fill up and prices increase as travel dates get closer.
Don’t let the magic sail away without you!
