Ron DeSantis To Give A Press Conference at the Former Reedy Creek Administrative Building Today
Nearly a year after signing the law that dissolved Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District and replaced it with the governor-appointed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), Ron DeSantis is set to address the media in Lake Buena Vista today.
The governor will be joined by Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly and speak at the CFTOD Administration Building.

The governor’s press conference comes after a federal judge dismissed Disney’s lawsuit against DeSantis and the CFTOD, arguing that the dissolution of Reedy Creek violated the company’s First Amendment rights.
Why Disney Sued DeSantis
In their lawsuit, Disney argued that Reedy Creek was dissolved in retaliation for the company’s public opposition to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill (which critics dubbed “Don’t Say Gay”).
DeSantis and the CFTOD meanwhile argued that the dissolution of Reedy Creek was about reform, not retaliation. Additionally, the Florida Governor and his co-defendant, the Secretary of Florida’s Department of Commerce, had argued that they were protected from suit by the 11th Amendment.

Because the alleged acts by the governor were “legislative in nature,” the defense team argued that both DeSantis and his Secretary were protected by the “absolute legislative immunity” that the 11th Amendment provides.
Disney’s Federal Suit Was Dismissed
In his ruling, Judge Allen Winsor determined that Disney’s lawsuit against DeSantis and the Secretary lacked standing. Additionally, he said their suit against the CFTOD lacked merit.

Disney has since indicated that they will appeal the ruling.
While it is unclear why DeSantis is holding a press conference today, Judge Winsor’s recent ruling will almost certainly be addressed.
