Geraldine Viswanathan Says Her ‘Thunderbolts’ Casting Was “Destiny Calling”
Once upon a time, Geraldine Viswanathan had dreams of playing Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Australian actress was not only the focus of a fan campaign for the role, but she also publically revealed her desire to play the young adventure.
When Marvel decided to go with Iman Vellani for the role, it looked like Viswanathan’s MCU dreams were over.
Then, she got a call for a role she never expected.
Viswanathan Joins ‘Thunderbolts’
Following Ayo Edebiri’s departure from the upcoming MCU film Thunderbolts, Viswanathan was offered a role-playing assistant to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Viswanathan reflected on her Marvel casting, admitting that she was happy to join the MCU in any capacity.
“I don’t know. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes, but I’ve always wanted to join the universe in whatever capacity, and this just came up,” Viswanathan said in an interview with ComicBook.com
According to the Drive-Away Dolls star, being offered the role felt like destiny.
“There’s a lot of…It was destiny. Destiny called me on the phone and I picked up and I said, ‘I’ll be there.’ Very excited.”
When Will We See Viswanathan Make Her MCU Debut
With Thunderbolts set to start filming shortly, it makes sense that Viswanathan is excited. Fans, however, will have to wait a little bit longer to see the actress’ MCU debut. When she does make her debut, she will be a part of a star-studded cast.
In the upcoming MCU film, under the watchful eye of Thunderbolt Ross, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will assemble a new squad comprised of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and U.S. Agent (Russell).
Thunderbolts will hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
