Ayo Edebiri Exits Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts,’ Geraldine Viswanathan Signs On
The cast of Marvel’s Thunderbolts is finally coming into focus.
Following the news that The Bear star Ayo Edebiri had dropped out of the film due to scheduling conflicts, Geraldine Viswanathan has signed up to replace her.
Viswanathan joins an ensemble cast for a film that will see a new kind of Avengers Team formed — specifically, a team of anti-heroes and former villains.
Under the watchful eye of Thunderbolt Ross, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will assemble a new squad comprised of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).
Edebiri and Steven Yeun Have Left After ‘Thunderbolts’ Was Delayed
Thunderbolts was initially slated to be released in July of this year. The film was delayed, however, due to last year’s SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. The film is now set to hit theaters next July.
Because of the delay, both Edebiri and The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun have now dropped out of the film. According to Sebastian Stan, however, filming is set to kick off soon. So, Thunderbolts‘ final cast should be rounding into shape.
Viswanathan Adds the MCU To Her Resume
Meanwhile, Viswanathan broke into the spotlight after starring in the 2018 teen comedy Blockers. She has also appeared in Bad Education with Hugh Jackman and in The Beanie Bubble with Zach Galifianakis and Elizabeth Banks. At this time, it is unclear what role Viswanathan will be playing in Thunderbolts.
Thunderbolts is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
