After 23 Years The Disney Movie Club Is Shutting Down
After 23 years, The Walt Disney Company is finally shutting down the Disney Movie Club.
“We’ve enjoyed serving you for the last 23 years, but consumer behavior and viewing preferences continue to evolve, so we have made the tough decision to close Disney Movie Club,” Disney said in an email to members.

According to Disney, the Disney Movie Club will permanently shut down on July 20, with May 20 singled out as the final day that patrons can order anything.
A Bastion of Rare Disney Titles
Launched in 2001, the Disney Movie Club obsessively served a subscription service that allowed you to get the latest Disney physical home media.
Perhaps more importantly, however, the Disney Movie Club also allowed members to purchase more obscure titles on home media, many of which were only available from the service.

Both hidden treasures like The Black Cauldron or Blackbeard’s Ghost were available on home media exclusively through the Disney Movie Club, as were overlooked television series such as Quick Pack.
Even 2022’s Strange World was only available on 4K through the Disney Movie Club. Long before the advent of streaming, the Club was the best place to find rare Disney movies or television series on home media. Even with the advent of Disney+, many of the titles offered through the Disney Movie Club remain unavailable anywhere else.
The Times Are Changing
The demise of the Disney Movie Club comes at a time when physical media sales continue to decline.
With Best Buy’s recent announcement that it will no longer sell DVDs and Blu-rays and today’s news that Disney is turning over its physical media business to Sony, we are entering a new era in home media.
