Disney Plummets Down Forbes’ List of America’s Best Large Employers in 2024
The Walt Disney Company has plummeted down Forbes’ annual list of America’s Best Large Employers this year, landing at a paltry #419.
Forbes’ list of America’s Top Large Employers is compiled annually via a survey by the market research firm Statista.
The list is based on responses from 45,000 Americans working for businesses with more than 5,000 employees.
According to Forbes, all questionnaires were conducted anonymously, which allowed participants to openly share their opinions. The respondents were asked to rate on a scale of 0 to 10 how likely they were to recommend their current employer. They are also asked to rate companies other than their own.
Disney Was Once a Staple of the Top 100
Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and Disney’s entry into the political spotlight, the company routinely landed in Forbes’ Top 100 Large Employers.
In 2018, Disney landed at #69 on the list. The company was able to improve to #48 the next year. 2020 was a high water mark for the company in recent memory when it came in at #16.
While last year saw the company coming in at a middling #273, this year, the results are even worse.
At #419 this year, Disney has fallen precipitously in recent years. Disney was joined in the upper 400s this year by the likes of Travelers Insurance, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
A Tough 2023
While one survey does not define the health of a company, Disney has frequently touted Forbes’ lists when it has ranked highly in them. There is no doubt then that the company is disappointed in this year’s showing.
It should be noted that last year, Bob Iger and his team laid off over 7,000 employees as part of a massive restructuring of Disney. With parts moving, peers being let go, and general unsteadiness in the day-to-day operations of the company, it was surely a hard time to work at Disney.
With the restructuring behind them, the company is seemingly heading in the right direction. Disney will look to rank higher next year.
