Closed Restaurant Sign Finally Removed in Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Once upon a time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Starring Rolls Cafe greeted weary travelers at the end of Hollywood Boulevard.
With its pastries, sandwiches, and desserts, not to mention plenty of seating, Starring Roles was the perfect place to sit down, relax, and enjoy a bite to eat.
The restaurant was a Disney-MGM Studios original, having opened with the park on May 1, 1989, and as someone who would frequently stop by for breakfast, I was shocked in February of 2017 when the eatery closed.
Why Did Starring Rolls Close?
Disney never made it clear why Starring Rolls had to close. However, it likely had to do with the opening of the Studio’s Starbucks location at the Trolley Car Cafe in 2015.
After Starring Rolls was shuttered, many of the eatery’s signature pastries and desserts moved over to the Starbucks location under different names.
Since closing in 2017, Starring Rolls has sat unused and dormant. Nestled next to the Brown Derby, the closed restaurant remains unused to this day.
The Restaurant’s Sign Has Finally Been Removed
While I wish I could bring you the news that Starring Rolls was re-opening or that the space is finally being put to good use, that is still not the case.
Instead, when visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios today, we noticed that the Starring Rolls signage had finally been removed.
While the patio and tables have remained since the restaurant closed, the Starring Rolls name was removed from the umbrellas years ago.
Still, the large sign that overlooked the patio had remained, obscured by a red scrim. Now, finally, it has been removed.
Is Something New Coming?
At this time, it is unclear if the sign’s removal is related to a larger project or if Disney is finally just cleaning up their mess.
Hopefully, this is a sign (get it) that the former Starring Rolls location will be used again in the future.
