A Massachusetts Police Detective Was Arrested at EPCOT After Incident with Security
A Brookline, Massachusetts police detective was arrested at EPCOT last week after accosting Disney security and allegedly hitting a sheriff’s deputy.
Det. Duane Arthur Danforth, 38, has been put on paid administrative leave while his department investigates what happened during the incident. At the time he was arrested, Danforth was off-duty.
“Police Chief Jennifer Paster reports that Detective Duane Danforth with the Brookline Police Department has been placed on paid administrative leave as a result of an incident that took place in the state of Florida while he was off duty,” Deputy Superintendent Paul Campbell said in a statement.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 30, at a private event at EPCOT’s United Kingdom pavilion. Danforth reportedly tried to get into the event by removing ropes.
Danforth Threatened to Kill Disney Security
When a security guard told Danforth that he had to go around, the police detective allegedly threatened to kill the guard and pushed past him.
“I am going to (expletive) kill you,” he screamed.
Danforth was described in court records as belligerent, intoxicated, and carrying a girl in one arm.
After disappearing into the private event’s crowd, Danforth was sought by security when sheriff’s deputies were called in. After ignoring Disney security, Danforth was approached by a deputy.
Resisting Arrest
After pushing the deputy, Danforth was taken into custody. He allegedly resisted arrest.
“Duane intentionally struck me by pushing me away with his hands as I tried to communicate with him,” the sheriff said.
At this time, it is unclear if Danforth has found an attorney to represent him and speak to the arrest.
