Josh Brolin Says He Has Heard That Thanos Could Return to the MCU
Despite the fact that Thanos was killed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe twice, Josh Brolin isn’t ruling out a return of the mad titan.
Perhaps the greatest villain in MCU history, and certainly the most significant, Thanos’s threat finally ended in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame when Iron Man sacrificed himself and used the Infinity Stones to defeat him once and for all. Or did he?
In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Brolin revealed that he had been hearing whispers that Thanos could return.
“You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine that they’re gonna bring him back,” Brolin said.
Could Thanos Come Back?
Since Avengers: Endgame, Thanos has reappeared in the multiversal animated series What If…? and had his death referenced in a parallel universe in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
It’s possible that Brolin could have heard about a variant of Thanos returning, even if the titan remains dead in the mainline MCU.
“There’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back,” said Brolin.
Will Thanos Save the MCU?
With the Marvel multiverse set to come together for Avengers 5 and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, however, the return of Thanos may not be as far-fetched as it sounds.
As Marvel continues to struggle to find its footing in a post-Infinity Stone world, perhaps they will turn to one of the franchise’s most iconic villains to get back on top.
