Dave Filoni Pays Tribute to Carl Weathers: “We Are Going to Miss Him Dearly”
Following last week’s tragic news that Carl Weathers had passed away, Lucasfilm CCO Dave Filoni took time to reflect on the time he spent working with the legendary actor on The Mandalorian.
For those who don’t know, Weathers starred as bounty hunter turned chief magistrate Greef Karga in all three seasons of The Mandalorian. He also directed nine episodes.
Dave Filoni Reacts to Weathers’ Passing
“He was the best, I dunno how to describe it. Just the fact that I got to meet him, to know him… He was one of the first people I directed, and he’s such an exceptional director… and he is great on and off camera. Jon [Favreau] and I were thrilled with what he did as Greef Karga and then as an episodic director for us… just the energy, the power that he carried in his stature and his voice… I mean, it’s rough,” Filoni said.
Following the news that Weathers had passed, his Mandalorian co-stars Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, and Gina Carano all paid tribute to the actor. Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau called the actor a “hero from my childhood.”
“I am heartbroken by this devastating loss,” he wrote. “He was a hero from my childhood who I was lucky enough to meet and then had the amazing good fortune to work with. He had the energy and curiosity of a young man paired with the wisdom that his rich life and career afforded him. My heart goes out to his family and countless admirers.”
A Star Wars Legend
Still, it was Filoni who may have summed up best how Star Wars fans feel.
“We’re gonna miss him dearly… and his legacy will continue on in ways we can’t even imagine,” Filoni concluded.
Weathers is survived by his ex-wife, Mary-Anne, and his two children.
