The Star Wars Universe Reacts to the Loss of Carl Weathers
Apollo Creed may have been his most famous role, but for Star Wars fans, Carl Weathers will always be Greeef Karga.
Following the tragic news that the actor had passed away at the age of 76, Weathers’ Star Wars family took to social media to pay tribute to the late actor.
“words fail 💔 #CarlWeathers,” The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal wrote, along with a picture of a young Weathers.

Jon Favreau Calls Weathers “My Childhood Hero”
Jon Favreau, creator of The Mandalorian, called Weathers a “hero from my childhood.”
“I am heartbroken by this devastating loss,” he wrote. “He was a hero from my childhood who I was lucky enough to meet and then had the amazing good fortune to work with. He had the energy and curiosity of a young man paired with the wisdom that his rich life and career afforded him. My heart goes out to his family and countless admirers.”
Weathers publically lauded Favreau and The Mandalorian team, especially after he got to direct a couple episodes of the series.
“I enjoy both [acting and directing] thoroughly but I’ve fallen in love with directing,” he told Hypebeast in April 2023. “It allows me to provide my personality and artistic bent, there’s so much more opportunity to be creative because you’re really involved with the entire piece, working on every aspect of it.”
He added, “With such a fantastic crew, being a director in this process has presented me with a wonderful sandbox to play in and I’m so grateful to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for having me be a part of it.”
Giancarlo Espositio Responds
Weather’s Mandalorian co-star Giancarlo Esposito also posted a lengthy tribute to Weathers, thanking him for his influence and support.
“I will sorely miss my dear friend & brother, Carl Weathers. You are truly one of the most wonderful human beings I have had the honor & pleasure of spending time with! I am grateful for your influence & support of all things good in my life. This is how I will always remember you,” Esposito wrote.
