William Dafoe Explains What Made His ‘No Way Home’ Return So Meaningful
As a longtime Spider-Man fan, Marvel Studios Spider-Man: No Way Home was the ultimate cinematic experience.
Not only did the film bring together all three Spider-Man franchises that we have seen on the big screen, but it did so in a meaningful way that further developed all of the characters involved.
While I was as excited as anyone to see Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland swing into action together, the real joy of the film was seeing the return of Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus.
As someone who grew up with the Sam Rami Spider-Man trilogy, seeing those legendary actors reprise their iconic roles was a dream come true.
William Dafoe Reflects on His Return
As it turns out, my experience was not all that unique among Spider-Man fans.
In a recent interview with Variety, Willem Dafoe discussed his Spider-Man return and explained what made it so meaningful.
“But then, 20 years later, to revisit it was really cool. Sometimes you run into people, and they say, ‘Oh, I saw the original Spider-Man when I was a kid, and now I took my son to it.’ So it’s kind of a sweet thing that bridges two generations of moviegoers.”
As hard as it is to believe that Sam Rami’s Spider-Man films came out 20 years ago, Dafoe is right.
With the passage of time, Dafoe and his Spider-Man co-stars have only become more beloved. It is that reverence that only time can create that made Spider-Man: No Way Home such a memorable experience for fans.
