WATCH: The First Trailer For ‘Madu’ Has Arrived!
A new documentary is coming to Disney+, telling the inspirational story of Anthony Madu.
Madu grabbed headlines in 2020 when a video of the 12-year-old dancing in the rain in Lagos went viral online.
In addition to winning the hearts of viewers worldwide, the video also caught the attention of prominent dancing schools. Madu eventually earned a scholarship to study at the prestigious Elmhurst Ballet School in the U.K.
Chronicling Anthony’s Story
In the upcoming documentary, the young boy’s journey is chronicled as he leaves his family in Nigeria to study in England.
According to the documentary synopsis:
“Having never left his home outside of Lagos, Anthony finds himself thrust into a new world where his wildest dreams are suddenly within reach.”
“His courageous journey is a story of extraordinary obstacles as he searches for belonging and acceptance, a family far away, and unexpected challenges that could impact his future.”
“Making Anthony’s Voice Heard Has Been Out Ultimate Drive”
Madu is directed by Oscar nominee Matt Ogens and Kachi Benson. The two filmmakers say that “making Anthony’s voice heard has been our ultimate drive.”
“Ultimately, we are both conduits to allow Anthony to tell his story rather than our observational points of view,” the filmmakers say. “Our shared journey is about curiosity and creating an understanding of different cultures through our connection with each other.”
Madu will debut at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 7. Fans will be able to watch the documentary on Disney+ beginning March 29.
