The Historic Paris Restaurant That Inspired ‘Ratatouille’ Lost More Than $1.6 Million in Wine
Just days after it was announced that the historic San Franciso toy store that inspired Pixar’s Toy Story was closing, we have another Pixar-related real-world news story.
La Gour D’Argent (which translates to Silver Tower), which inspired the restaurant in Pixar’s 2007 hit film Ratatouille, has lost more than €1.5m ($1,620,907.50) of wine.
Staff at the upscale restaurant found dozens of bottles of wine were missing from the cellar during routine inventory.
The restaurant, which is famed for its sixth-floor dining room, complete with breathtaking views of Notre Dame, has a wine cellar with over 3,000 bottles in it.
No Signs of a Break In
According to the restaurant, the theft would have occurred sometime between January 2020 and January 2024. Additionally, there were reportedly no signs of a break into the cellar.
Among the missing bottles was wine from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti. Bottles of the wine can sell for tens of thousands of dollars.
An Historic Restaurant
La Tour D’Argent boasts a wine “bible” that is so heavy that it has to be wheeled out to customers on a trolley. The restaurant underwent a major renovation in 2022 and re-opened late last summer.
In addition to its wide selection of wine, La Tour D’Argent is famed for being the oldest restaurant in Paris and a staple of many tourists visiting the city.
The restaurant claims that King Henri IV ate heron pate there, Louis XIV hosted a meal, and celebrities, including Salvador Dali and Marilyn Monroe, dined in the establishment.
