shopDisney is Laying Off 150 Employees
A year after The Walt Disney Company laid off over 7,000 employees as part of its overall cost-cutting strategy, the company is once again being plagued by terminations.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Pixar Studios was considering laying off hundreds of employees.
Pixar had initially beefed up its workforce as it prepared to enter the world of streaming series with Win or Lose.
Now that production on the series has concluded, the studio feels it’s overstaffed.
Job Cuts at shopDisney
Hot on the heels of the Pixar news comes the revelation that shopDisney will lay off 115 employees effective March 24.
The job cuts at Disney’s online merchandise hub focus on employees who work remotely in guest service roles.
Most of the affected positions are also part-time. The impacted employees were notified earlier this week.
Following the layoffs, shopDisney will transition guest services to a third-party company with employees located across the globe in different time zones.
Essentially, Disney is outsourcing the jobs to other countries.
Is This The Extent of the Layoffs?
Hopefully, this is the last we will hear of layoffs at The Walt Disney Company. With the company now hyper-focused on profitability, it may be only the beginning.
