REVIEW: Is Tony’s Town Square Restaurant Worth a Visit in Magic Kingdom?
It’s time to visit a controversial Disney World restaurant.
Tony’s Town Square Restaurant is located on Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom, and it’s home to Italian fare with a Lady and the Tramp theme. Disney recently announced five new menu items and we had to pay the restaurant a visit to give a few of them a try!
Checking In
First, we have to note how easy it was to find a same-day reservation for Tony’s! We found one for 1:15PM at around 12:15PM.
Tony’s also offers a Walk-Up Waitlist, but that was full at the time that we looked, so we just grabbed the reservation.
(Of course, your mileage may vary depending on when you visit.)
Tony’s is easy to find on Main Street, U.S.A., and we could check in starting at 12:55PM, so we headed to the restaurant.
Inside Tony’s, you’ll find tons of references to Lady and the Tramp. This is what the waiting area looks like,
Lots of images of Lady, Tramp, and other scenes from Lady and the Tramp can be found decorating the walls.
Take a look at Darling and Jim Dear sitting by the fire with Lady!
This is what the dining room looks like. There are a variety of booths and tables for guests.
And now that we’re at our table, let’s take a look at the menu!
Menu
Tony’s menu features Tony himself on the front.
The menu features a range of dishes, with popular options like Tony’s Garlic Bread for the Table and Fried Mozzarella for appetizers. Appetizers range in price from $10 to $15.
For entrees, there are several classic Italian dishes like Spaghetti and Meatballs for $27 or Fettuccine Alfredo for $28, with plant-based options also available. Entrees are on the pricey side, ranging from $24 to $33. A kids’ menu is available with appetizers and entrees.
And for dessert, you have four choices ranging in price from $7.75 to $9.50.
Tony’s also offers cocktails, wine, and beer.
Now it’s time to dig in!
Food
We started our meal with Tony’s Garlic Bread For The Table for $13, which comes with toasted ciabatta with roasted garlic butter and parmesan fonduta. This appetizer is not new, but we wanted to give it a try.
We honestly thought that this was the best garlic bread we’ve ever had! It was crispy but the butter melted just enough to soften it in the middle. It had the perfect flavor of garlic and the cheese sauce was also delicious with a great parmesan flavor. 100/10.
Next, we moved onto new dishes! We ordered three of them — the Chicken Parmigiana, Rigatoni alla Vodka, and Braised Beef Short Rib.
The Chicken Parmigiana was $30, coming with lightly-breaded chicken breast baked in Tony’s marinara sauce and mozzarella, and served with spaghetti.
The chicken was juicy with a nice crust, and it had a really good flavor. The cheese was perfectly melty and the spaghetti was cooked al dente, but it really needed more flavor!
The Braised Beef Short Rib comes with tender beef slow cooked in beer and pepperoni sauce with crispy parmesan potatoes and seasonal vegetables for $31.
We found the braised beef very bland, but it was juicy and fell apart nicely. The rest of the dish — and the potatoes especially — were way too over-salted. This was our least favorite of the three entrees we ordered.
And we’ve arrived at the Rigatoni alla Vodka, which comes with rigatoni tossed in a classic tomato-vodka sauce topped with parmesan-herb breadcrumbs for $24.
The pasta was cooked al dente and the vodka sauce had a delicious flavor. The breadcrumbs added a pleasing texture component, and note that you can add protein if you want!
Finally, our server recommended we try the Tiramisu Cannoli, made with homemade filling with hints of espresso, chocolate, and mascarpone cheese for $9.50.
We thought this was a fun play on a traditional Italian dessert! The tiramisu mousse was smooth and velvety with a great flavor, and the cannoli provided the perfect crunchy contrast. A+.
Our Thoughts
It’s no secret that Tony’s Town Square Restaurant is somewhat controversial. It has a convenient location and offers a menu pleasing to all kinds of taste buds, but it’s also pricey — and historically the food hasn’t lived quite up to the cost.
However, after this visit to Tony’s, if you want Italian food in Magic Kingdom — go for it! It’s typically easy to find reservations on the same day and it also offers alcohol and air conditioning. And we also enjoyed most of the food this time around!
However, if you’re looking for Italian food in Disney World overall, we recommend skipping Tony’s and going for other Italian locations — such as Via Napoli or Tutto Italia Ristorante in EPCOT, or Trattoria al Forno on Disney’s BoardWalk.
