WestJet Airline to Retire Magic Planes in 2024
For years, Canadian airline WestJet delighted customers with a pixie-dusted pair of ‘Magic Planes.’

But after nearly a decade of magical service, WestJet has announced that the popular airplanes will lose their Disney sparkle by the end of 2024.
The company confirmed the change to Daily Hive Canada, stating that “the co-branded liveries will be updated following a natural transition in our contract agreements with Disney Parks & Resorts.”

According to the spokesperson, “The two aircraft in question will be repainted to match the existing WestJet fleet.”
WestJet Magic Planes
In 2013, WestJet debuted a custom-painted Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 series aircraft featuring Sorcerer Mickey. Dubbed the ‘Magic Plane,” the aircraft showcases Disney’s 1940 animated classic Fantasia.

In addition to the stunning exterior artwork, the Magic Plane also includes pixie-dusted details like these enchanting Disney-themed seatbacks.

Two years later in 2015, WestJet tapped into the popularity of Disney’s Frozen franchise with a second Magic Plane.

According to WestJet, artists used over 170 gallons of paint in 23 separate colors to create the aircraft’s exterior artwork. Sparkles were also applied to add “shimmer and shine as the aircraft moves” through the sky.

In the years since, both planes have serviced routes between Canada and Orlando, as well as various other routes. But Disney-loving customers will be disappointed come 2025 when the magic disappears from the beloved pair of aircraft.
