Mary Elizabeth Winstead Finally Gets a Chance to Talk About ‘Ashoka’
Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Mary Elizabeth Winstead wasn’t able to talk about her entry into the Star Wars universe for last year’s Ahsoka.
Winstead assumed the role of Hera Syndulla in the Lucasfilm series, marking the first time that the Star Wars Rebels fan-favorite had appeared in live-action.
Interstingly, Winstead’s partner, Ewan McGregor, is a legend in the Star Wars universe, so the actress wasn’t stepping into a galaxy far, far away blind.
“It was great to have a direct line to what this experience was going to be like, and it was nothing but positive,” Winstead told The Hollywood Reporter. “Of course, we had those conversations before [Ahsoka] as well, but it became a different conversation once it became a reality that I might actually be stepping into it. And I also had a familiarity with the project from being around on the Obi-Wan set.”
“It Was Really Perfect For Me”
At the time that Ahsoka finished shooting, Winstead was less than a year removed from giving birth to her first child with McGregor. Looking back, the actress is glad that the role of Hera was not overly physically demanding.
“It was really perfect for me just in terms of where I was in my life at the time. It was my first job back after having a baby, and I was still feeling my way back into my body in terms of my physicality in the role,” Winstead shared. “So it was perfect for me to feel strong and like a warrior, but in a way that didn’t require me to wreck my body, which was still in some level of postpartum recovery even at that stage.”
‘Ahoska’ Season 2 Is on the Way
While Winstead was being interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, news broke that Lucasfilm would be producing The Mandalorian & Grogu, a feature film based on the popular streaming series The Mandalorian. Closer to home for Winstead, the press release also revealed that Ahsoka season 2 was in development.
If the actress had any inside information about the announcements, she played coy.
“I can say that I genuinely know very little. But that is a very exciting press release and I’m really happy to hear that it’s being talked about,” Winstead said.
Ahsoka is now streaming on Disney+.
