Here Is What Bob Iger and Other Disney Executives Made in 2023
As part of the Walt Disney Company’s preliminary proxy statement ahead of their showdown with Nelson Peltz, the company has revealed what its top executives, including CEO Bob Iger, earned in 2023.
According to the new filing, Iger’s 2023 pay was $31.6 million, with the majority of the package coming in stock and option awards.
How Iger’s Compensation Breaks Down
Iger’s 2023 salary was about $4 million higher than the $27 million annual pay that was announced as part of the CEO’s November 2022 return. The difference appears to have come from the $2.41 million cash bonus and $2.48 million in other compensation that the CEO took home last year.
Iger’s 2023 pay package also included $865,385 in base salary, 16.1 million in stock awards, and $10 million in stock-option awards. After signing an extension last summer, his contract now runs through the end of 2026.
While Iger’s compensation may have been higher than some expected, his pay was down from the $45.9 million that he earned in 2021. That was his last full year of employment at the company.
Chapek and McCarthy’s 2023 Compensation
The man who both succeeded and preceded Iger, Bob Chapek, received $9.94 million from Disney in 2023, despite being ousted in November of 2022.
Finally, there was Christine McCarthy. The former CFO and longtime Disney executive left the company last year but took home a package valued at $18.1 million.
In total, Disney only paid Iger roughly $4 million more than the two departed executives.
Disney Rehired Brian Chapek
Buried in Disney’s proxy statement was also the news that the company rehired Bob Chapek’s son, Brian Chapek, in June 2023.
Brian initially left Disney after his father became CEO to start his own venture. The company has rehired the younger Chapek as a production executive at Marvel Studios. Marvel had been a client of Brian’s outside venture.
According to Disney, the company “terminated the contract and re-hired Mr. B. Chapek as an employee” eight months after his father was ousted as Disney’s CEO.
