Patrick Stewart Calls His ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Cameo “Disappointing” and Talks ‘Deadpool 3’
X-Men fans were thrilled to see Patrick Stewart reprise his iconic role as Professor Charles Xavier in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
While the scenes featuring the professor were set in an alternate universe to the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Multiverse of Madness marked the first time that Stewart reprised his role in the MCU.
As it turns out, however, despite interacting with other characters in the film, including Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch (who ultimately kills the alternate reality version of Professor X), due to COVID safety protocols, Stewart filmed the scene alone.
“I was alone,” Stewart revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “In the big scene, each one of the leading actors had the same [solo] experience; they were shot on their own. It was frustrating and disappointing, but that’s how it has been. The last few years have been challenging.”
Stewart Believes Professor X Will Return
While Multiverse of Madness saw the demise of one version of Charles Xavier, Stewart doesn’t believe the character will be gone for long.
“I have every confidence he’s still around,” Stewart quipped.
The most natural film to include an appearance by the X-Men leader would be the upcoming Deadpool 3.
Deadpool 3 “Has Come Up”
With his longtime co-star Hugh Jackman set to return as Wolverine, it would make sense to see Stewart’s Professor Xavier by his side.
When asked by Happy Sad Confused host Josh Horowitz if a Deadpool 3 role was in his future, Stewart simply smiled.
“I’m going to guess that I might see Patrick Stewart in a Deadpool-Wolverine movie,” the host said.
Eventually, Stewart revealed that the possibility had come up.
“It has come up, there’s been a process,” Stewart revealed. “But the last two to three years have been so difficult. With the labor problems and the health problems, COVID, you know…”
Hopefully, Stewart does return for Deadpool 3 and is able to get the hero’s welcome he deserves.
