Charlie Hunnam Met With George Lucas About Playing Anakin Skywalker
While Hayden Christensen has become synonymous with Anakin Skywalker and Star Wars in general, he was not the only actor that George Lucas considered for the role.
In the lead-up to 2002’s Attack of the Clones, Lucas and his team held widespread auditions for an older actor who would portray a grown-up Anakin.
Charlie Hunnam Almost Got the Role
As it turns out, one of the actors who was considered for the role was Rebel Moon star Charlie Hunnam. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hunnam revealed that he got far enough in the process to meet George Lucas.
“I had forgotten that too, but yes, I did. I got to the point where I was meeting George Lucas, you know?” Hunnam said. “And I don’t think he meets a lot of actors. I think it was probably, maybe, two to three actors they were considering. I don’t remember much about it.”
After leaving the “awkward meeting,” Hunnam had a feeling they would not be getting the role.
“I just remember it being a very awkward meeting and walking out and thinking, ‘Well, I’m definitely not [getting the] role,’” Hunnam added. “And I was correct. Sometimes it’s about the vibes.”
A Star Wars What If?
In the end, Hayden Christensen would get the role and come to embody the tragic Jedi and would even reprise his role in 2021’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and 2023’s Ahsoka.
Hunnam, meanwhile, had a successful career of his own and now gets a chance to star in a Star Wars-esque film, Rebel Moon.
While everything worked out, imagining Charlie Hunnam as Anakin Skywalker is a great Star Wars what if?
