What Does Bob Iger Think of Himself?
Not that long ago, Bob Iger spoke at an event cynically dismissed as “billionaires summer camp.”
At this summit, Iger provided a live interview to CNBC and somehow managed to enrage the entire working class in Hollywood.
Many observers worried whether Bob Iger thought too highly of himself. Now, we have our answer.
We have literal proof that answers a lingering question. What does Bob Iger think of himself?
Let’s just say that we should all be envious of his self-confidence.
What Just Happened?

“Revenge is a dish best served cold.” That’s how the saying goes, and someone may have just proven it.
As part of an ongoing pay equity lawsuit, Disney’s attorneys just performed a data dump.
The legal premise involves burying the opposition in so much data that they suffer analysis paralysis. It’s a longstanding legal maneuver.
However, this one may have backfired against Iger. I’m not speaking definitively because this leak may have been the point.
Disney could be using the story I’m reporting as a distraction away from something that would help the opposing attorneys make their case.
Then again, given Disney’s 2023 run of misfortune, this may just be the unofficial hoisting of Bob Iger on his own petard.
Specifically, one of the documents came from 2019. It was a self-evaluation Iger performed of his own work at The Walt Disney Company.
You’ve probably had to do this yourself at work. Your boss doesn’t want to make the effort, so they ask you to judge your own job performance.
You may wonder why Iger would have to do that since he was the boss at Disney at the time.
Well, Iger wanted a pay increase, and he needed to describe his recent career successes to get it.
So, we got this absolutely amazing document:
Wait, What?
Yes, I know. I did a doubletake the first time I read it as well.
This document shows that Iger took the time to examine his 2019 achievements and pat himself on the back. Like, a lot.
He may have torn his rotator cuff patting himself on the back this much.
Find someone who loves you the way that Bob Iger loves his job performance at Disney in 2019.
Yes, I’m having fun with this, but that’s because the whole thing is so ridiculous.
Iger theoretically wrote this document to present to the Board of Directors. He needed their approval to gain more stock.
Who was the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the time? Bob Iger.
This is like you writing yourself a letter to explain why it’s okay for you to stick a bag of popcorn in the microwave. It’s patently absurd.
Still, we did gain insight into what Iger liked the most about what would be his final full year with Disney before retiring.
Iger emphasizes professional successes like “the creative engines” that were in the process of “74 premium movies” and “97 tv series.”
Fun fact: Several of those films are the ones that just bombed in theaters in 2023.
Iger gave himself a premature pay raise for those impending debacles. It’s good to be the king.
Iger Then vs. Now
Of course, Iger had cause to celebrate at the time. Disney’s 2019 box office slate had just generated $10 billion in revenue.
Also, the company completed its purchase of Fox’s assets, something that has greatly aided Disney’s bottom line.
Still, Disney’s net revenue hasn’t increased much, even as its annual revenue has gone up by roughly $20 billion.
So, I doubt 2019 Bob Iger would evaluate 2023 Bob Iger’s performance as glowingly.
