Magic Kingdom
Pirates of the Caribbean debuted in Magic Kingdom in 1973 and was one of the park’s first major additions after opening.
The rare photo above from the Disney archives provides a glimpse at what Disney guests saw when visiting the park.
This early photo shows construction where guests would be taken on a 17th century voyage pn the high seas and through ransacked Caribbean towns.
The attraction opened and quickly became a fan favorite! Guests found themselves sailing in a new world past Dead Man’s Cove, a Caribbean fort, and more.
And of course, “Yo Ho, Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)” adding to the overall experience.
The first Pirates of the Caribbean attraction actually opened in 1967 at Disneyland.
This classic attraction is one of the last experiences Walt personally oversaw.
There are multiple Pirates attractions today and plenty of fun facts that you can get more of in “Behind the Attraction,” now streaming on Disney+.
The Disney+ episode features the history of the attraction and how it has technologically advanced over the years.
