Vincent D’Onofrio Believes ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Will Feature a Darker Tone
Marvel fans were delighted earlier this year when the first trailer for Echo was released. Not only did the show feature a level of grit sorely missing from the MCU, but the trailer also introduced fans to Marvel Spotlight.
According to Marvel, the new banner will allow the studio to bring “more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of ‘Echo,’ focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity. Just like comics fans didn’t need to read ‘Avengers’ or ‘Fantastic Four’ to enjoy a ‘Ghost Rider’ Spotlight comic, our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story.”
The announcement was not only a relief to the Marvel fans who have had trouble keeping up with the studio’s output but also to fans who missed the darker tone of the Marvel Netflix series.
‘Daredevil: Born Again’
With Echo firmly established as the first Marvel Spotlight release, all eyes turned to Daredevil: Born Again.
The reboot of the popular Marvel Netflix series is reportedly being overhauled after Marvel executives were unhappy with the half-season of content that had been filmed.
With Marvel moving “street level” stories to its Spotlight banner and Echo receiving a TV-MA rating, would Marvel salvage Daredevil: Born Again by taking the series in a darker direction?
Vincent D’Onofrio Says ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ and ‘Echo’ Have the Same Tone
According to Daredevil (and Echo) star Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin, the answer is yes.
“That’s my opinion, I imagine it would be. Nobody has said, ‘Hey, did you know this? This is happening’ — nobody said that. But it is of the same tone and feel [as Echo]. The attention that the big bosses are giving to it is extraordinary and Charlie [Cox] and I are just amazed at how much they care about this series. I can’t imagine it being treated any less.”
D’Onofrio’s comments should give Daredevil fans hope. Despite the troubled production of Born Again, it seems that Marvel is still dedicated to creating a quality product.
Hopefully, Echo and Daredevil: Born Again will expand the MCU in different ways and help fend off the dreaded “superhero fatigue.”
