We had a little bit of an idea of what to expect at the show, but we were still blown away! Come along with us to take a look at Luminous.
Luminous The Symphony of Us
Luminous The Symphony of Us is a 15 minute show that takes place at EPCOT’s World Showcase Lagoon, like almost all of the other nighttime fireworks shows at the park. Tonight the show was at 9:30PM, when the park closes.

The show is designed to bring people together, according to Disney. It features fountains, fireworks, lights, and music to show different life experiences that people have in common, thus showing us how we’re more alike than we are different.
Luminous begins with a big drum sequins, then we go into a blackout. Out of the blackout is a voice that welcomes us to the gathering.
After that, we have voices from each country joining in from around World Showcase, as well as a nod to the other neighborhoods at the front of the park. One of the show’s original songs, “Heartbeat Symphony,” plays at this time.
It’s a sweeping ballad that brings a lot of heart to the show!
We then get a look at parenthood and see some common childhood moments that are set to a multilingual arrangement of “You’ll Be in My Heart.” The symphony then goes into “Proud Corazón” as the show highlights the bonds of family.
After family we see friendship with songs like “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” and “Friend Like Me.” This is supposed to take you back to “the days of recess and friendship bracelets,” according to Disney.
Next, we move on to romance being celebrated with an arrangement of “So Close” from Disney’s Enchanted. Moments of loss are also commemorated with songs like “When She Loved Me” and “Remember Me.”
“Into the Unknown” wrap ups this section to remind people that they’re not alone.
Then, out of the darkness is “I See the Light” from Disney’s Tangled. This brings us to the finale and the second original song in the show — “Beating of our Hearts.”
Disney worked with Pinar Toprak once again on the show’s score (Pinar also worked on film soundtracks and you can hear her EPCOT anthem at night by Spaceship Earth).
You might also recognize some of the vocal talent used in the songs, including singer/songwriter Sheléa and Katharine McPhee!
So, what did we think of this new show? Well, our reporters thought it started out pretty slow, but it definitely picked up as it went on.
What we really liked about this show was that it has a distinct storyline that we were able to follow. Harmonious was definitely more all over the place compared to Luminous as far as storytelling goes.
We also think the fireworks and other pyrotechnics have really improved in this new show.
There were a bunch of fan favorite songs in Luminous which made it entertaining as well.
The fountains and colors were gorgeous and it was a great addition to the show instead of the projections like we saw with Harmonious.
Overall, we really enjoyed Luminous and can’t wait to watch it again!
