You can now go in hot pursuit of all the criminals in the world of Zootopia!
You’ll even have Judy Hopps and her crime-fighting partner – and reformed con artist – Nick Wilde assist you as you patrol the streets of this urban jungle.

Yes, Shanghai Disneyland has just revealed its newest attraction, Zootopia: Hot Pursuit.
Let’s take a look at the ride that we’re all hoping and expecting to come to Disney’s Animal Kingdom one day soon.

Shanghai Disneyland officially opens its new Zootopia themed land on December 20th.
However, some of the experiences are now available as part of technical rehearsals, cast member previews, and the like.

So, we’ve started getting snippets of the entire themed land based on the 2016 Walt Disney Animation Studios film.
Today, we got the best preview to date, as Scott Gustin acquired footage of the ride video for Zootopia: Hot Pursuit:

Of course, many of you prefer YouTube these days for…reasons. So, here’s an on-ride video of the latest Imagineering triumph:
Disney has put a lot of thought and love into the story of Zootopia: Hot Pursuit.
A familiar villain has kidnapped Gazelle, the most popular singer in Zootopia.
As a rookie cop, you must try anything to save Gazelle from the unrepentant criminal.

Thankfully, you’ll have some assistance during your patrol, as superstar police officer Judy Hopps and her buddy cop, Nick Wilde, are already on the case.
You must work with the two of them to rescue Gazelle in time for her big concert later this evening.
The Genius of Zootopia: Hot Pursuit
I’ll presume that you’ve already watched the ride video. If so, similarities with other Disney attractions are unmistakable.
Imagineers have created a dark ride using trackless technology. So, your ride cart can move anywhere in the room.
On first glance, this ride looks like a mad scientist’s union of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

Those are far from the only familiar elements, too. The opening sequence mirrors one from Frozen Ever After, while some of the motions mimic Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
Zootopia: Hot Pursuit feels like Disney distilled the best ideas from many of its most popular attractions and repurposed them for one signature dark ride.
You’ll watch a motion picture screen reminiscent of Soarin’ or WEBSLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.

However, you might not notice because you’re also on a kind of sleigh ride at the moment.
In fact, Zootopia: Hot Pursuit bounces you around a lot, which hearkens back to Disney’s first trackless ride, Pooh’s Hunny Hunt.
Folks, this is a family thrill ride, something I honestly hadn’t expected. And the best part comes at the end.

Remember how Frozen Ever After builds to that crescendo of Elsa singing Let It Go?
Zootopia: Hot Pursuit does the same thing, but it’s even better because it’ll remind you of Splash Mountain’s Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.
The smartest part of that ride is how it finished with a happy song, leaving guests tapping their toes and humming as they exited.

This ride looks perfect, and we need it at Animal Kingdom FAST! Get started already, Disney!
