We Now Know Why ‘Frozen 4’ Is Already in Development
Disney fans were surprised earlier this week when Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that Frozen 4 was already in development.
The fact that Disney is continuing the popular Frozen franchise in and of itself is not surprising, Elsa, Anna, and Olaf continue to be some of Disney’s most popular characters.
It was unlike Disney to announce a third Frozen sequel, however, two years before Frozen 3 hits theaters. While Frozen 3 will likely be another success (Frozen 2 was the highest-grossing animated movie of all time until The Super Mario Bros. Movie came along), you never know.
Jennifer Lee Gives a Glimpse at ‘Frozen’s’ Future
In a recent interview, the Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation and the writer and director of Frozen and Frozen 2, Jennifer Lee, may have given some insight into why Frozen 4 is already in production. When talking about the future of Frozen she said:
“The team is hard at work, we are deeply excited about the story we are shaping together, and it’s so epic it may not fit into just one film.”
Lee’s quotes seem to indicate that Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 may be two halves of the same story.
Frozen 3 and 4 Will Tell One Overarching Story
Lee’s comments also mesh with Josh Gad’s revelation that the planned Frozen sequels were “pretty mind-blowing”.
“I could share things with you, but Disney would literally escort me out of the building with armed security,” joked Gad. “No, apparently there are two Frozen sequels in development right now — surprise! Equally surprised — and I know Jennifer Lee, who wrote and directed the first two, is hard at work with the team right now.”
“I’ve heard a little bit and I can tell you guys, it’s pretty mind-blowing what’s coming. It’s pretty exciting,” he added.
Iger’s Comments Now Make Sense
Both Lee and Gad seem to be hinting at a larger Frozen story being told in the upcoming sequels. If that is the case, Iger’s announcement that Frozen 4 is in the works suddenly becomes much less surprising.
Fans will have to wait until 2025 for Frozen 3 to hit theaters, but by the sound of things, Disney is not planning on slowing down its Frozen content anytime soon.
