Billionaire Ken Griffin Threw a Tokyo Disney Party For Citadel Employees
To celebrate Citadel’s 30th anniversary and Citadel Securities’ 20th anniversary, billionaire hedge-fund magnate Ken Griffin did what any of us would do if we had unimaginable wealth — he threw a party at Tokyo Disney Resort.
1,200 of Citadel’s Asia-based staffers and their family members were treated to a three-day celebration at the popular Disney resort.
According to the NY Post, Griffin paid the bill for employees from six Asia Pacific offices as well as their significant others and 300 children to go to both Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea.
Additionally, Citadel spokesperson Yin Ai stated that Griffin also provided Disney Premier Access to the employees which allowed them to skip the line.
Maroon 5 and Calvin Harris Even Performed
On Saturday, Citadel held an official anniversary party in Tokyo that saw Maroon 5 and Calvin Harris perform. In addition to the company’s Asia employees, C-suite executives including Griffin and Citadel Securities CEO Peng Zhao were on hand for the festivities.
Ai emphasized, however, that Griffin personally paid for everything.
“Ken paid for the entire anniversary events, travel, hotels, food, park tickets, entertainment, and childcare,” she said.
Not Citadel’s First Disney Party
Late last year, Griffin threw a similar event for his US and European employees at Walt Disney World.
During that event, employees were flown out from New York, Houston, Paris, and Zurich, among other cities, and got free reign of Walt Disney World’s four parks. The event also included performances by Carl Rae Jepson, DJ Diplo, and Coldplay.
While each event cost Griffin hundreds of thousands of dollars, who among us wouldn’t throw a giant party at a Disney Park if we could?
