‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’ Breaks PlayStation’s 24-Hour Sales Record
Marvel has another hit on their hands; however, this time it is not a film or television series that is dominating popular culture — it’s a video game.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has broken the record for the fast-selling PlayStation Studios game with 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours.
The previous record for most units sold by a PlayStation game in 24 hours was previously held by 2022’s God of War Ragnarok and 2018’s Spider-Man.
Record Breaking Numbers
The game, which is only available on PlayStation, was developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel Games and PlayStation Studios.
In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, users can play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales who have to stop Kraven the Hunter. The game also features a murderous row of Spider-Man supervillains.
“On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, I want to say thank you to the fans — we truly hope you are enjoying your time playing as Peter and Miles in this amazing adventure,” Eric Lempel, Sony’s SVP of global marketing, sales and business operations, said in a release.
Another Marvel Hit
Since its release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been lauded by critics and fans alike who have praised the game’s storyline, graphics, and gameplay. The game currently holds a 99% rating on OpenCritic and a 91/100 rating on Metacritic.
PlayStation users can purchase the standard version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for $66.99 or the deluxe edition for $79.99.
Based on the success of the first two games in the series, a third installment in the Spider-Man franchise seems like an inevitability.
