This Day in Disney History- October 17
Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- October 17.
October 17th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the debut of three new Disney characters, a major announcement for Disneyland, and the premiere of a Disney Halloween classic. So, let’s get started.
Great Guns Released (1927)
On this day in 1927, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon Great Guns was released.
In the short, Oswald goes to war and fights in the trenches.
Huey Dewey and Louie Debut (1937)
On this day in 1937, Huey Dewey and Louie debuted in Disney’s Sunday comic strip.
Donald’s identical triplet nephews were created by cartoonish Al Taliaferro, and would eventually rise to fame when Ducktales debuted in the 1980s.
The New York World’s Fair Ends (1965)
On this day in 1965, the World’s Fair in Flushing, New York officially ended.
Disney had developed four attractions for the fair- The Carousel of Progress, Ford’s Magic Skyway, It’s a Small World, and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.
Halloweentown Debuts (1998)
On this day in 1998, Halloweentown debuted on The Diseny Channel.
The film starred Debbie Reynolds, Judith Hoag, Kimberly J. Brown, and Joey Zimmerman.
Disney’s California Adventure Overhaul Announced (2007)
On this day in 2007, Diseny announced it would be overhauling Disney’s California Adventure.
The multi-year refurbishment would see the additions of Buena Vista Steet and Cars Land.
Morning Light Released (2008)
On this day in 2008, Morning Light was released.
The documentary was co-produced by Roy Disney and featured the adventures of a real-life crew training and competing in the 44th Transpacific Yacht Race.
Limited Time Magic Announced (2012)
On this day in 2012, Disney announced that Limited Time Magic would be coming to the Disney Parks next year.
The 2013 celebration would see weekly surprises at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort.
The Brave Little Toaster 30th Anniversary Screening Takes Place (2017)
Finally, on this day in 2017, the Brave Little Toaster had a special 30th anniversary screening.
The 1987 film was set in a world where household appliances come to life when not in the presence of humans.
