This Day in Disney History- October 13
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of The Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- October 13.
October 13th was a slower day in Disney history with the induction of the first Disney Legend, the debut of a classic film, and the premiere of a new Star Wars series. So, let’s get started!
Bee at the Beach Released (1950)
On this day in 1950, the Donald Duck short Bee at the Beach was released.
In the cartoon, Donald and Spike the Bee fight over space at the beach.
Walt Disney Returns to Marceline (1960)
On this day in 1960, Walt Disney returned to Marceline, Missouri.
Walt made the trip back to his hometown to dedicate Walt Disney Elementary.
Fred MacMurray Becomes the First Disney Legend (1987)
On this day in 1987, Fred MacMurray was inducted as the very first Disney Legend.
MacMurray arrived in the back of a 1915 Model T Ford reminiscent of the one he flew as Professor Ned Brainard in The Absent-Minded Professor.
The Nightmare Before Christmas Opens (1993)
On this day in 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas opened in New York City.
The stop-motion fantasy film was created by Tim Burton and told the story of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town who tries to bring Christmas to his people.
Key West Seafood Closes (1992)
On this day in 1992, Key West Seafood closed at Disneyland Paris.
The restaurant was replaced by a Rainforest Cafe.
Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire Premieres (2000)
On this day in 2000, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire premiered.
The film tells the story of the Hansen kids who believe their mom’s new boyfriend is a vampire.
Passholders Get The Seas with Nemo & Friends Preview (2006)
On this day in 2006, Walt Disney World Annual Passholders got to ride The Seas with Nemo & Friends.
Star Wars Rebels Premieres (2014)
Finally, on this day in 2014, Star Wars Rebels premiered on Disney XD.
The new animated series followed a band of rebels in the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
