Ashley Eckstein To Lead New Audiodrama For Disney Publishing
Ashley Eckstein, who is perhaps best known as the voice of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, will be starring in and co-creating a brand-new audiodrama for Disney Publishing.
The new young adult audiodrama is slated to kick off a new original IP for Disney. Eckstein will lead the first narrative based on the IP. Disney, however, is reportedly looking to expand the unnamed franchise into new publishing formats.
A New IP Is Coming
In addition to Eckstein, the audiodrama is set to be produced by Jeff Gomez. The fantasy/sci-fi writer has experience working across multiple platforms.
This should help Gomez usher the new, original IP into various publishing formats.
While we know that the new series will be aimed at a young adult audience, and will feature a full cast, any other details on the project are being kept under wraps.
Disney Is Diving Into Audio-First Storytelling
From the looks of things, Disney, and more specifically, Disney Publishing, seems to have identified audio stories as the next frontier in storytelling.
Earlier this week, Disney announced the debut of The Frozen Podcast: Forces of Nature. A collaboration between Disney Publishing Worldwide, ABC Audio, and Walt Disney Animation Studios is set after the events of Frozen II and will continue the story of Anna, Elsa, and Olaf.
If Disney can manage to launch a new IP through an audiodrama format, it could open up a whole new world for both Disney and consumers.
