‘Loki’ Delivers Second-Highest Disney+ Debut of 2023
The God of Mischief has returned with a bang.
Season 2 of Loki premiered on Disney+ last Thursday and quickly managed to become the second most-viewed season premiere on the streaming service in 2023.
Loki’s 10.9 million global views in the three days after its premiere put the Marvel Studios series behind only season three of The Mandalorian. Disney+, like Netflix, counts a view as total stream time divided by runtime.
A Critical Darling
The ratings weren’t the only good news for Loki. The season two premiere also received an 87% fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiances rated the show’s return even higher, giving it a 94% approval rating.
Loki Season 2 saw the return of stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Sophia Di Martino, as well as the welcome addition of Key Huy Quan.
Interestingly, Disney has chosen to debut new episodes of Loki at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday nights. Previously, the show was released at 3 a.m.
A Bounceback For Marvel
The return of Loki saw the God of Mischief returning to the TVA after killing He Who Remains. With the knowledge that Kang and his variants are coming, Loki must team up with Mobius to find Sylvie and save the multiverse.
Following the disappointing reception of Secret Invasion, both Marvel and Disney are likely thrilled with the strong results from Loki.
The next question will be how well the series can hold its audience.
Loki is now streaming on Disney+
