‘Frozen III’ Gets a Promising Update
While we are still likely at least a couple of years away from seeing Frozen III hit theaters, expectations for the film are understandably high. Luckily, by the sound of things, fans have good reason to be excited.
Disney Animation chief creative officer Jennifer Lee, who directed the franchise’s first two installments, told attendees at the BFI London Film Festival on Thursday that she is “blown away” by what she has seen of the film so far.
“Every morning last week they carved out space for me to work with the creative team on it, and I am blown away and I am so excited,” Lee said. “I don’t know what I’m doing on it yet — I’m not doing nothing — except doing what I do now, which is we work on every project as as team and I’m in there with creative. But with ‘Frozen,’ just a little bit more.”
More Stories to Tell
When discussing the future of the franchise, Lee insisted that there were more stories to tell.
“Our philosophy is this, and it won’t change: If there is more story to tell, the filmmakers have to drive it. And I’ll say with ‘Frozen,’ Marc Smith, who was our director of story on ‘Frozen 2,’ came with an incredible idea for more ‘Frozen,’ and it’s worth it.”
Big Shoes to Fill
Disney announced that Frozen III was in production during their Q1 earnings call in February. The film will be the third installment in the blockbuster franchise and the first release since Frozen II hit theaters in 2019.
That film went on to gross over $1.453 billion at the box office, making it the second-highest-grossing animated film of all time. To reach the highs of its predecessors, Frozen III will have its work cut out for it.
While at this time Frozen III doesn’t have a release date, it sounds like production is well underway.
