Magic Kingdom
October 5th was a busy day in Disney history with the release of an animated feature film, the opening of an iconic hotel, and the closure of an EPCOT Center classic. So, let’s get started!
Music Land Released (1935)
On this day in 1935, Music Land was released.

The Silly Symphony short featured the Land of Symphony in Music Land, and it was a kind of retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet — except with anthropomorphized musical instruments.
Ichabod and Mr. Toad Released (1949)
On this day in 1949, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad was released.

The animated feature film was split up into two segments- The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which was narrated by Bing Crosby, and The Wind in the IWllows narrated by Basil Rathbone.
Disneyland Hotel Opens (1955)
On this day in 1955, the Disneyland Hotel opened.

Although not owned by Disney, the hotel would become synonymous with the Happiest Place on Earth.
Kokkoman Sponsors the Adventureland Veranda (1977)
On this day in 1977, Kokkoman assumed sponsorship of the Adventureland Veranda.

The restaurant served fried chicken, hot sandwiches, and soft drinks.
World of Motion Dedicated (1982)
On this day in 1982, the World of Motion was officially dedicated at EPCOT Center.

Sponsored by General Motors, the attraction took guests through the history of transportation.
Main Street Cinema Closes (1992)
On this day in 1992, the Main Street Cinema closed.

The location would eventually be refurbished and transformed into a merchandise location.
Max Keebler’s Big Move Released (2011)
On this day in 2011, Max Keebler’s Big Move was released.

The film tells the story of Max Keebler who learns he is moving to a new city and decides to get revenge on his bullies.
Steve Jobs Passes Away (2011)
On this day in 2011, Steve Jobs passed away at the age of 56.

In addition to being the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple, Jobs held a seat on the Disney board.
Frankenweenie Released (2012)
On this day in 2012, Frankenweenie was released.

Directed by Tim Burton, the film was a remake of Burton’s 1984 short film of the same name.
Maelstrom Closes (2014)
On this day in 2014, Maelstrom closed.

The attraction originally opened with the rest of the Norway pavilion in 1988. It would eventually be replaced by Frozen Ever After.
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration Opens (2020)
On this day in 2020, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.


Frozen Sing-Along
The show, which is a musical retelling of Frozen, had closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
