‘Toy Story Funday Football’ Sets Disney+ and ESPN+ Viewership Records
This past Sunday, Disney and the NFL teamed up to bring professional football to the Toy Story universe.
For the Toy Story Funday Football presentation, the game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Jacksonville Jaguars (which was taking place in London’s Wembley Stadium) was fully animated in real-time, giving viewers a chance to experience the game as if they were watching toys play in Andy’s room.
For the special event, Slinky Dog served as the first down chains, the Claw reset the football, and the Little Green Aliens explained the penalty calls.
The broadcast also featured animated versions of the broadcasters, familiar Toy Story faces, and a halftime performance by Duke Kaboom.
A Record-Breaking Presentation
The special presentation was a huge hit with viewers, who were amazed by both the visuals of the fully animated game and the technology that made it all possible.
Broadcast on Disney+, ESPN+, and NFL+, the game drew a massive audience. In fact, according to Disney, Toy Story Funday Football was the most-viewed event ever on ESPN+.
Additionally, the alternative broadcast was the biggest live event to date on Disney+ (based on peak concurrency).
Based on the strong results from both Toy Story Funday Football and the animated Big City Greens NHL game, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Disney deliver more animated sporting events.
