This Day in Disney History- October 4
Welcome back to our magical foray through the history of The Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- October 4.
October 4th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the retirement of a legendary Imagineer, the closure of a Magic Kingdom attrition, and a special event at EPCOT Center. So, let’s get started!
Alice in the Wooly West Released (1926)
On this day in 1926, Alice in the Wooly West was released.
Walt Disney Leaves Chile (1941)
On this day in 1941, Walt and Lillian Disney left Chile to return to the United States.
Walt had been on a two-month visit to South America but needed to return to New York for the world premiere of Dumbo.
Yale Gracey Retires (1975)
On this day in 1975, legendary Imagineer Yale Gracey retired from The Walt Disney Company.
Gracey is perhaps best known for devising many of the illusions used in the Haunted Mansion, but he also worked on a score of attractions at Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom, and EPCOT Center.
EPCOT Extravaganza Takes Place (1986)
On this day in 1986, EPCOT Extravaganza took place.
The special event was part of Walt Disney World’s 15th anniversary and saw the ten countries of World Showcase celebrate with unique music, entertainment, and cuisine.
Mission to Mars Closes (1993)
On this day in 1993, Mission to Mars closed in the Magic Kingdom.
The Tomorrowland attraction had been open since June 1975. It would be replaced with the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter.
Rolie Polie Olie Debuts (1998)
On this day in 1998, Rolie Polie Olie debuted on the Disney Channel.
The computer-animated series featured robot characters living on a geometric planet.
The Scream Team Airs (2002)
On this day in 2002, The Scream Team aired on the Disney Channel.
The film tells the story of a young brother and sister who learn that their grandparent’s house is haunted.
Frozen Festival Show Closes (2015)
On this day in 2015, the Frozen Festival Show closed in Hong Kong Disneyland.
The attraction was almost identical to For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration and had been running since June.
