Something Has CHANGED in Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Fountain
Fountains are an endangered breed at the Magic Kingdom these days. Over the last decade or so, Disney has transformed some of the park’s most iconic little water features into planters. From the Caribbean Plaza water feature to the opening day fountain near the Crystal Palace, more and more fountains have disappeared from the Magic Kingdom landscape.
As former Imagineer Brandon Kleyla once famously said, “Water features don’t last forever,” and it makes sense that after 50 years some of the original Magic Kingdom infrastructure would break down.
Still, these fountains, as small as they may seem, have been a part of generations of visitors’ memories.
The Magic Kingdom’s Royal Fountain
One fountain that has stood the test of time is the Cinderella Fountain. For those who don’t know, the fountain is located near the back of Cinderella Castle.
The water feature depicts Cinderella as we see her early in the film. She is wearing raggedy clothes but is happy with her mice friends, Gus Gus and Jaq.
The bronze figure of Cinderella is backed by a curved mural that features golden flowers.
A part of the Magic Kingdom since the park’s opening day, the fountain has become one of the many magical details within the park that guests visit over and over again.
The Cinderella Fountain Refurbishment
In recent months, however, the Cinderella Fountain has been turned off,
With the fountain clearly being worked on by Imagineers, many have feared that the water feature would be turned into another planter.
Well, it appears as if those fears are unfounded!
Today when visiting the Cinderella Fountain, we discovered that the fountain’s basin has been re-painted a light blue color.
The new paint of coat and the light blue color scheme would seem to indicate that Disney has no plans of covering the basin with foliage.
Instead, it seems that soon enough, a newly refurbished Cinderella Fountain will once again grace the Magic Kingdom.
Here is another look at the fountain in its current state.
I for one, can’t wait to see the fountain return in all its glory!
