Sid Cahuenga’s Gets A New Marquee At Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Once upon a time, Sid Cahuenga’s One-of-a-Kind Antiques and Curius was a Mecca for classic movie fans.
Located at the front of the Disney-MGM Studios, Sid Cahuenga’s sold “Tinseltown treasure” including Disney posters, signed celebrity photographs, movie costumes, books, and more.
As Disney’s Hollywood Studios began to move away from its “Golden Age of Hollywood” theme and become a mish-mosh of intellectual properties, the unique theming and merchandise of Sid Cahuenga’s also began to fade away.
A Barometer of Change
In the late 2000s, some of the unique Hollywood merchandise began to be replaced with more conventional Disney art. Then in 2013, the store closed.
The location eventually reopened as a MyMagic+ hub, before being transformed into the park’s PhotoPass center. While some Hollywood memorabilia continued to be displayed, the magic was gone.
As with most of the park’s classic Hollywood theming, Sid Cahuenga and his antiques are now a part of Disney history.
A New Marquee
Today, when visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests may have noticed that Sid Cahuenga’s has gotten a new sign.
True to its original nature, the store originally advertised “Hollywood” and “Tinseltown Treasures”.
Now however the neon stars read “Tinseltown Photo” and “Treasured Memories”. The new sign is clearly more in line with what the location has become.
While few will notice the change at Sid Cahuenga’s the new name is indicative of the decline that the former store has gone through. What was once an oasis of classic Hollywood goodies has become a generic PhotoPass hub.
I for one, will continue to mourn the loss of Sid Cahuenga’s and the Hollywood that Never Was and Always Will be.
