Ten Reasons to Visit Walt Disney World in 2024
I know we say this often, but that’s because it’s true.
Once again, next year is shaping up to be one of the greatest times ever to vacation at Walt Disney World.
In recent years, we’ve celebrated Disney’s 100th anniversary and Walt Disney World’s 50th birthday.
Next year won’t have anything like that, but it’ll offer a ton of new experiences worthy of a trip.
Here are ten reasons to visit Walt Disney World in 2024.
Fort Wilderness Take Two
Walt Disney World is currently undergoing a massive overhaul of some of its longstanding resorts.
For example, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground opened in 1971. It’s five weeks younger than Walt Disney World itself.
We’re talking about a recreational area that is more than 50 years old.
Right now, Disney is performing unprecedented upgrades to the resort.
As we speak, construction crews are tearing down many of the cabins here.
Later, Disney will rebuild entirely new cabins in the same space, and they’ll be substantially better.
Since many Disney fans feel that Fort Wilderness offers one of the most unique vacation experiences, it’s definitely a reason to stay here in 2024!
Journey of Water | Inspired by Moana
MickeyBlog readers have tracked the construction of Journey of Water | Inspired by Moana since the beginning.
Our dedicated team of park reporters has taken countless photographs throughout the process.
In October 2023, this attraction will finally open at EPCOT. By the time 2024 rolls around, Disney will have perfected the experience.
Given the technical innovations at play, it’s sure to have a few hiccups at the start. By visiting next year, you’ll avoid them!
Also, there’s a hidden second reason here. Disney recently announced that Moana will appear at a character spot near the attraction!
Luminous The Symphony of Us
EPCOT recently ended Harmonious, a decision that seemingly came out of nowhere.
I say this because Disney had previously announced Harmonious as the long-term replacement for IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.
Instead, Harmonious lasted about one year, but that could be a good thing overall.
Late in 2023, a new nighttime presentation will debut at EPCOT.
You can be among the first to watch a performance of Luminous The Symphony of Us, which is always a memorable experience at Disney.
More Country Bear Jamboree
Nobody loves Country Bear Jamboree more than me. Yes, I know that it’s old and dated.
In truth, there isn’t much difference between this show and a visit to Chuck E. Cheese, although the music is surprisingly euphemistic at the Disney show.
Still, I think even diehard defenders of Country Bear Jamboree, like myself, will acknowledge that it’s…a bit stale.
Disney apparently agrees as park planners have spent the past few months plotting a new version of the show.
In 2024, Country Bear Jamboree will add a new song list comprised of classic Disney tunes countryfied to make them appropriate for the show.
For the first time in ages, you’ll have a new reason to watch Country Bear Jamboree!
Newly Updated Star Tours
Are you watching Ahsoka on Disney+? If you’re not, you may be the only one.
The long-awaited standalone series about the Jedi Padawan of Anakin Skywalker works as a sequel to The Mandalorian.
However, other familiar characters from the Star Wars universe appear as well, and fans are over the moon about the various cameos.
Of course, the real draw is Ahsoka Tano herself, a longstanding deep-cut character who has moved to the forefront in the 2000s.
Disney wants to celebrate Ahsoka’s soaring popularity in a novel way. She will appear in new scenes on Star Tours – The Adventures Continue!
That’s right, everyone. Star Tours will update yet again in 2024. Among all Disney attractions, this is the one Disney plusses the most regularly.
The Pirate Tavern
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me!
Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!
Adventureland at Magic Kingdom is finally adding the obvious after all these years.
In the area surrounding Pirates of the Caribbean, Imagineers will create an accompanying tavern that expands the attraction’s story.
Disney has already promised the appearance of the Barker Bird, aka Peg-Leg Pete the Parrot.
This character used to welcome guests to the Magic Kingdom attraction with this familiar line of dialogue:
“Heave to, maties! There be longboats waiting down by Pirate’s Cove! Waitin’ to take you to the Spanish Main!
“Right this way! Through the arches and down past the dungeon, in the old fortress”.”
We’re talking about a beloved character who will provide entertainment at the new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern! I can’t wait!
The Polynesian Expansion
While Fort Wilderness wasn’t ready on Walt Disney World’s opening day, this resort was.
Since October 1st, 1971, Disney fans have relied on Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort as arguably the best themed of all Disney hotels.
Now, for the first time ever, Disney has constructed a complete standalone expansion tower on the Polynesian campus.
This high-rise resides directly on the beach and provides a stunning view of Magic Kingdom.
These rooms will combine the beauty and logistics of a monorail resort with state-of-the-art amenities.
Return of the Disney Dining Plan
Here’s a vital change coming in 2024.
Since the pandemic in 2020, Walt Disney World hasn’t offered the Disney Dining Plan.
That statement will change in January with the return of the 2024 version of the Disney Dining Plan.
Disney has streamlined the service to make it easier to understand and, in many cases, explain to members of your traveling party.
Now, we have a version that includes Quick-Service only and one where half the meals occur at Table Service restaurants. Easy peasy.
You can read the specifics here, but I’m emphatic on the point that a Disney vacation is less stressful when using the dining plan.
Tiana’s Bayou Journey
Here’s arguably the biggest update coming to Walt Disney World in 2024.
For the first time since 1992, the former Splash Mountain will include a new look and theme.
Disney has taken the old ride building and told a new story based on The Princess and the Frog.
In fact, the new attraction’s story takes place in the movie’s aftermath.
Tiana has earned her happily ever after as one of the most revered chefs in the South.
Now, the Disney Princess wants to throw a party for her friends, family, and the people of New Orleans.
The perfect entrée will deliver the capper for this meal, but Tiana discovers she’s missing a key ingredient. So, she heads to the bayou to find it.
Along the way, Tiana encounters some of the people and creatures who assisted her during her frog days.
Disney has great expectations for this attraction, which will anchor the next generation of Frontierland and/or what lies beyond Big Thunder Mountain.
You can be one of the first to experience Tiana’s Bayou Journey in 2024!
World Celebration
In December 2023, EPCOT finally completes a seven-year rebuild that the pandemic slowed dramatically.
In 2016, Disney announced plans to modernize Future World, eventually splitting this one space into three new Neighborhoods.
The last of them, World Celebration, will finally debut soon. When it does, guests can finally visit the new gathering spots here.
Specifically, you can hang out at CommuniCore Hall, CommuniCore Plaza, and Dreamers Point.
Frankly, based on what we’ve seen thus far, you may never want to leave.
Disney understands that some fans enjoy the parks less for the attractions and more for the communal experience.
These Neighborhoods encourage people to lay down their burdens and relax on vacation.
World Celebration promises a different, more tranquil kind of park visit. It’s yet another reason you’ll want to visit Walt Disney World in 2024.
