September 23 was a major day in Disney history, with the debut of a classic Walt Disney World attraction, the opening of a Walt Disney museum, and also the return of a classic television series. So, let’s get going!
The Brave Little Tailor Released (1938)
On this day in 1938, the Mickey Mouse cartoon The Brave Little Tailor was released.
When Mickey, the tailor, boasts about killing “seven flies with one blow”, the kind thinks that he is talking about giants and sends him out to kill one. If Mickey can succeed he is offered the hand of Princess Minnie in return.
Goofy Gymnastics Released (1949)
On this day in 1949, the Goofy cartoon Goofy Gymnastics was released.
In the cartoon, Goofy tries a gymnastics course at the end of a long workweek.
Up a Tree Released (1955)
On this day in 1955, the Disney cartoon, Up a Tree was released.
The short starred Donald Duck and Chip ‘n’ Dale.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Debuts (1980)
On this day in 1980, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad debuted at the Magic Kingdom.
The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness was designed by Imagineer Tony Baxter. The attraction will have its grand opening in November.
Not Quite Human II Premieres (1989)
On this day in 1989, Not Quite Human II premiered on the Disney Channel.
The film starred Alan Thicke as a doctor who had created an android who looks like a 17-year-old boy. The film was a sequel to the 1987 film Not Quite Human.
Horizons Signs Removed (1999)
On this day in 1999, the large and small Horizons signs were removed from the closed pavilion.
orizons had originally opened on October 1, 1983, and was permanently closed on January 9, 1999. The pavilion would be bulldozed and replaced by Mission: Space.
Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream Opens (2001)
On this day in 2001, Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream officially opened at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The walkthrough attraction featured memorabilia from Walt Disney’s life and career and was created as part of the 100 Years of Magic Celebration.
A Milestone For Hong Kong Disneyland (2004)
On this day in 2004, Hong Kong Disneyland held a ceremony as Sleeping Beauty Castle was “topped off”.
With the final structural element of the castle now in place, Hong Kong Disneyland executives continued to work toward the park’s September 2005 opening.
The Game Plan Premieres (2007)
On this day in 2007, The Game Plan had its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre.
The film starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a carefree football star who learns he has a young daughter.
Disney Announces “Let the Memories Begin” (2010)
On this day in 2010, Disney announced the company’s 2011 marketing campaign would be “Let the Memories Begin”.
As part of the celebration images of Disney guests would be projected onto it’s a small world at Disneyland and Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom.
Blue Sky Cellar Reopens (2011)
On this day in 2011, the Blue Sky Celler reopened in Disney California Adventure.
The studio now gave guests a behind-the-scenes look at the construction of Buena Vista Street.
The Wonderful World of Disney Returns (2020)
Finally, on this day in 2020, ABC’s The Wonderful World of Disney returned to television.
The beloved series returned with the network broadcast premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy.
