September 22nd was a big day in Disney history with the official hiring of Michael Eisner and Frank Wells, the debut of an Epcot nighttime spectacular, and the opening of a Disney resort! So, let’s get going!
First Aiders Released (1944)
On this day in 1944, the Minnie Mouse short First Aiders was released.
In the cartoon, Minnie practices first-aid on Pluto to Fiagro’s delight.
Camp Dog Released (1950)
On this day in 1950, the Pluto cartoon Camp Dog was released.
In the cartoon, two mangy coyotes attempt to raid the supplies of fishermen, not realizing that Pluto is on guard.
Freeway Trouble Released (1965)
On this day in 1965, the cartoon Goofy’s Freeway Trouble was released.
The short was a sequel to the Goofy cartoon Freewayphobia and helped promote freeway safety.
Michael Eisner and Frank Wells Assume New Roles (1984)
On this day in 1984, Michael Eisner was elected Chairman and CEO of Walt Disney Productions, while Frank Wells was elected President and COO.
The duo would help turn the struggling Walt Disney Company and usher in both the Disney animation Renaissance and the Disney Decade.
Walt Disney World’s 20th Anniversary Parade Kicks Off (1991)
On this day in 1991, Walt Disney World’s 20th Anniversary Surprise Celebration Parade kicked off on Main Street USA.
The resort’s 20th Anniversary celebration will officially start on October 1.
IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth Debuts (1999)
On this day in 1999, IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth was performed for the first time at Epcot.
The new show was created as part of the park’s Millennium Celebration.
The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Debuts (2010)
On this day in 2010, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes debuted on Disney XD.
The new series was created by Marvel Animation and was based on the Avengers comic books.
Disney’s Aulani Has It’s Grand Opening (2011)
On this day in 2011, Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa had its Grand Opening celebration.
On hand for the festivities were Disney CEO Bob Iger, Tom Staggs, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
The Revenge for the Headless Horseman Opens (2011)
On this day in 2011, The Revenge of the Headless Horseman walk-through attraction opened in Hong Kong Disneyland.
the haunted circus attraction replaced Demon Jungle during the Halloween season.
Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar Opens (2015)
On this day in 2015, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar opened at Downtown Disney.
The Indiana Jones-themed bar is decked out with aviation decor and seats 150 guests.
The Lion King Rhythms of the Pride Lands Closes (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, The Lion King Rhythms of the Pride Lands closed at Disneyland Paris.
The musical stage show opened in June of 2019.
