PHOTOS & VIDEO: Soarin’ Over California Has Returned to EPCOT!
Today marks the first day of the Disney100 celebration at EPCOT and we’re taking you along with us!
We’ve seen Mickey and Minnie in their new platinum outfits, a new Mickey statue by Spaceship Earth, new merchandise, and lots more — and now it’s time for a big ride change!
Soarin’ Over California
If you’ve visited EPCOT within the last 8ish years, you may have ridden Soarin’ Around the World, located in The Land Pavilion.
Soarin’ Around the World takes guests on a hang glide tour through a variety of scenes around the world in a 180-degree, 80-foot IMAX digital projection dome.
The ride is set to a beautiful musical score and even features scents relevant to certain scenes.
Now, for the first time in years, Soarin’ Over California has returned to EPCOT! This was actually the original version of EPCOT’s Soarin’ from 2005 to 2016, but it transitioned to Soarin’ Around the World in 2016.
And now it’s back for a limited time! Disney has not shared how long it will be around, so make sure you stop by sooner rather than later if you want to experience it.
If you look below, you can see that Disney swapped “Around the World” with “Now Taking Flight” on the sign, with a new Disney100 medallion on the right side of the sign.
Here’s a closer look at the medallion!
The pre-show was a little different with the addition of California city graphics. The rest of it proceeded as usual!
Soarin’ Over California takes guests on a hang gliding tour over California, with scenes featuring views of the Monterey Coast, Yosemite National Park, Malibu, Disneyland, and more.
You can watch part of it below!

We really enjoyed the new scents of orange and pine trees!
And we actually liked the music more than Soarin’ Around the World.
All in all, we’re pretty excited to have Soarin’ Over California in EPCOT!
The ride ends with a trip down Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland!
Disney has not yet shared how long Soarin’ Over California will stay in EPCOT, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for an update.
