NEW Details Released About Disney World’s Next Biggest Competitor — Universal Epic Universe
In case you missed it, something big is coming soon to the land of theme parks in Orlando, Florida.
Universal Epic Universe is expected to open in 2025, bringing with it four new lands to Universal Orlando. We’ve already talked about how this new theme park could potentially impact attendance at Disney World, but in the meantime, we just learned some new details about Epic Universe.
“Most Technologically Advanced Park”
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, NBCUniversal’s CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, Mark Woodbury, revealed a number of new details about Universal’s new park at the Bank of America Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference.
Woodbury stated, “It’s the most technologically advanced park we’ve ever done,” bringing with it features such as “facial recognition [and] photo validation technology.”
He added, “That speaks to both the attractions themselves, the next generation of robotics drone technology, all the way to the guest experience. The full guest journey is really being taken to a whole new level.”
Epic Universe will be comprised of four different lands dedicated to themes of How to Train Your Dragon, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Universal Classic Monsters, and Super Nintendo World.
Woodbury said that these lands are based on “powerful, trip-driving intellectual property,” and they will be arranged around a central hub, which would “bring the park back into theme parks.”
Epic Universe’s goal is to encourage visitors to stay for a full week at Universal Orlando, which is currently comprised of Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay water park, and CityWalk, a shopping and dining district.
For context, Woodbury said that most people stay an average of three days at Universal Orlando right now.
Epic Universe’s arrival will also bring 2,000 more hotel rooms to Universal Orlando, with plans for integrating the hotel experience into the park. Electric buses will transport guests to the parks.
And when it comes to the highly anticipated demand with the opening of a new park, Woodbury said that Universal is ready, especially thanks to new technology.
“We have the benefit of new technology that we’re deploying in terms of managing ticketing, revenue and revenue management across each of those platforms,” Woodbury said.
