Star Wars Retconned One Of The Franchise’s Most Infamous Moments
Perhaps one of the most iconic moments in Star Wars history was never meant to happen.
In Return of the Jedi, when fighting on Jabba’s skiff, Luke Skywalker unleashed the first ever “Force-Kick,” a name given to the infamous goof, where Mark Hamill failed to make contact with his opponent, but still managed to send the man flying.
In the years since the film’s release, Hamill’s missed kick has become a thing of pop culture legend.
Mark Hamill’s Take
Earlier this year, Hamill addressed the blooper with the perfect response.
“How could anyone possibly be bothered by my widely celebrated, perfectly executed Force-Kick?!” the actor quipped.

As it turns out, Hamill may not have been far off in his explanation for the goof.
Star Wars Retcons The Moment
A new Star Wars book, Return of the Jedi: From a Certain Point of View, is giving some of the overlooked characters in the Star Wars franchise a chance to tell their story.
One of these characters, is Sion, the Jabba the Hut guard who had Luke in his sights, that is before the Jedi unleashed his “Force-Kick.”
“He had him. There was no space to parry and no space to swing, and — and he hadn’t accounted for the kick, not at this distance,” the story reveals.
So there you have it. 40 years after Return of the Jedi hit theaters we have a new answer to one of Star Wars’ most pressing questions. It wasn’t a mistake by Mark Hamill and filmmakers, it was a legendary Force move.
