Live Bats + Peter Pan’s Vampire Revelation = Bizarre Day in Disney World
Today, a small colony of bats was spotted under the eaves of the Frontierland/Adventureland gateway by MickeyBlogers on location. Does Disney use live bats in Halloween Decor? In short, no, but they do make for a spooktacular ambiance.
Peter Pan was on his way from Neverland to Adventureland while we were walking through and told us all we need to know. See video below!
What should you do?!?!
What should you do if you see live bats under the eaves while you’re at Disney? Absolutely nothing. Keep walking. If you’re like me and love these little flying mammals, say “AWWWW!!!,” try to get a selfie, then indecently pepper your friends and family with all the reasons why bats are beyond AMAZING animals!
What should Disney do?!?!
What should Disney do about these bats hanging around? Absolutely nothing. Keep walking. Bats are a protected species in Florida. Walt Disney was an amazing conversationalist and would be proud to know Walt Disney World staff (and fans!) keep his love of nature alive today.
These flying mammals are nothing to be scared of while at the parks. They are very content to sleep in the rafters during the day. You might hear them squeaking in their dreams, but other than that you probably wouldn’t ever notice them. In the evenings, you would never know they fly throughout the sky consuming 1200 insects an hour! Each bat can eat 6000-8000 nightly, which equates to a lot fewer mosquito bites for us all!
When we spotted these bats, Peter Pan happened to be strolling to Adventureland as well.

Peter’s idea was to recruit the bats to Neverland to give Tick Tock Croc a break from chasing Captain Hook for the spooky season. Peter was also adamant that the bats were not creepy! They fly just like he does. Some people also say Peter’s like a vampire… wait, what?
- Peter doesn’t grow old.
- He can fly like a bat.
- No bedtime.
- …and he sparkles with Pixie Dust!
I think that means Peter is a Twilight fan.
People may expect wild bats to be an issue for Disney, but they’re not at all! You might take the opinion of the Red Queen, but Disney can’t do that with bats! Bats in Florida are protected year-round, and therefore it is illegal to harm or kill them. Disney’s live bats in Halloween decor may be a misnomer, but let’s go with it!
You can see even bigger bats at Disney’s Maharajah Jungle Trek–this walking path through Southeast Asia features much bigger cousins to the native bats in Florida!
